Quick answer
DONT SPLASH has five main items: pebbles (your free decoy, up to 8 per run), bottles (throwables found in rooms), the flare (stuns IT in a radius, 450-coin unlock), the wind-up toy (a moving noise decoy) and the rescue rope (pulls teammates out, 250 coins or R$30). You start with three tool slots; passes add a 4th and 5th.

Pebbles: The Most Important Item
If you only learn one tool, learn the pebble. IT is blind, so a pebble landing in distant water sounds exactly like a player. The monster swims to the splash and you cross in silence. You can carry up to eight pebbles per run and refill from piles along the route. Throwing a pebble directly at IT does nothing — it must hit open water.
- Select the item. Press its number key on PC or tap its slot on mobile.
- Aim at open water. Pick water away from your route — never at the monster itself.
- Throw. Click or tap to throw. The splash pulls IT toward that spot.
- Move while IT swims. Cross your section while the monster checks the decoy.
- Stow the item. Press the number key again to put it away before jumping.
DONT SPLASH Tools and Tips Video
Watch pebble throws and tool use in a real run — the timing is easier to copy after you see it once.
Flare
The flare is the panic button. When IT is already charging, a flare stuns it inside its radius and buys you time to reach a safe tile. It costs 450 coins to unlock and gets stronger with the Flare Radius upgrade. Save it for the Maintenance Lock or a bad charge, not for easy rooms.
Wind-up Toy
The wind-up toy is a moving decoy. It keeps making noise for about six seconds (seven with Toy Battery level 1), which gives you a longer window than a single pebble splash. It is great for long crossings like the Rotating Bridges.
Rescue Rope
The rescue rope pulls a teammate out of the water before IT arrives. Unlock it for 250 coins or buy the permanent R$30 pass. Base reach is 12 studs (14 at Rope Reach level 1), and Rescue Speed shortens the pull from 3.0 to 2.8 seconds. Solo players get nothing from it.
Tool Slots and Hotbar
You start with three tool slots. The 4th Tool Slot (R$99) and 5th Tool Slot (R$149) passes add more. On PC, press number keys to select an item, press again to stow it, and click to throw. On mobile, tap the item slot and tap to throw. See all passes in the DONT SPLASH game passes guide.

Yes for squads, no for solo players. It only rescues teammates.
Final Thoughts
Items are how you control IT instead of running from it. Master pebbles first, unlock the flare for emergencies, and add the rescue rope only if you play with friends. Learn how IT reacts to each item in the DONT SPLASH monster guide and find more in the DONT SPLASH wiki.
